Ancient Village Found
P.6 Eng 4/7
Yesterday, some hikers hiking on Lantau Island made the most amazing
discovery - they found one of the oldest villages in Hong Kong. Historians believe
that the village is thousands of years old.
by Peter Lo
'We were hiking and we got lost,' explained Bosco Wu, one of the hikers.
'We wanted to find the way out. We climbed to the bottom of a steep hill where we
found the village.'
At first the hikers did not realise there was a village but then one of them
found the houses. 'They were difficult to see because they were covered in plants."
Inside the houses they found some cups made out of wood. They also found knives
made out of animal bones which were thousands of years old. There were also a
small temple and one of the deepest wells in Hong Kong next to the houses, where
the villagers used to collect their water.
'We are working with the Government to make the village into a kind of
museum,' said Lucy Chan from the University of Hong Kong. 'Visitors will be able
to walk inside and around the houses. It'll be one of the most interesting museums
in Hong Kong.'
